Curbside treasures
The City of Dieppe is inviting residents to take part in the first Curbside treasures pickup taking place on Saturday, April 30 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (in case of rain, the activity will be rescheduled for Sunday, May 1).
Residents are encouraged to create more space in their homes and place items in good condition curbside. These items can be placed curbside or become treasures for others, all the while reducing environmental impact.
If you decide to participate, display a sign indicating that your items can be claimed free of charge (available at dieppe.ca) and make sure the items you don’t want to give away are not placed curbside.
Curbside treasures can be books, compact disks and DVD, furniture and small appliances, sports gear, toys, garden and yard tools, kitchen accessories, dinnerware, cutlery, pots, pans, unwanted gifts, electronic devices and clothes.
Some items are not permitted during this treasure hunt such as construction material, paint, bed bug infested items (e.g. mattress and bedding), and things listed as dangerous items (complete list at nbse.ca). Visit Health Canada’s Product Safety Bureau for a list of children’s items that are not recommended for curbside (e.g. walkers, cribs, car seats, etc.).
Rules/etiquette
- Respect other people’s property, avoid walking on lawns and in gardens.
- Take only items identified as “free” and placed curbside.
- Repect the road traffic rules (e.g. avoid blocking traffic or sidewalk, parking illegally or blocking off entrance to a yard with your vehicle.)
- Drive carefully and watch out for children.
- Do not leave behind an item you picked up somewhere else.
In order to avoid violating the bylaw regulating the collection of waste (C-2), please put away your unclaimed treasures no later than 6 p.m. on the day of the activity.
What to do with unclaimed treasures? Rather than restoring them in your basement where they will continue collecting dust, why not donate them to different community organizations. Have a fun treasure hunt!
