Upcoming storm and snow removal operations
DIEPPE, NB — Significant amounts of snow could fall over the region again in the next few hours. Our snow removal crews continue to clean up the remnants of the last storm and are getting ready for the next one.
As a reference, it takes about 10 days to completely clear a 40-cm snowfall. This includes clearing streets, sidewalks, paths, parking lots, bus shelters and crosswalk buttons at intersections, as well as snow removal and street widening.
Did you know that you can make the work of city crews easier by taking small, simple steps?
- Avoid driving on city streets during a storm; stay home if you can.
- Avoid parking your car at the curb in daylight hours during a storm.
- Do not park overnight on a city street. Bylaw C-1 stipulates that parking on city streets is prohibited between midnight and 7 a.m. from December 1 to March 31. Parking in prohibited areas may lead to being ticketed or towed.
- Do not put snow from a driveway or parking lot onto a city street or sidewalk.
- Do not park your vehicle in front of your driveway as this makes it more difficult for city equipment to pass.
- Avoid spinning tires at intersections. This practice is dangerous and poses a risk to other motorists. It also contributes to the build-up of ice at intersections.
- Place garbage or garbage containers where they will not be buried or damaged and will not interfere with snow removal operations.
- To prevent localized flooding, try to keep the storm drain adjacent to your property free of ice and snow.
- When clearing your driveway, place the snow to your right (when facing the street) so that your driveway does not get filled with snow the next time the plow passes.
All motorists are responsible for adapting their driving to road conditions. If streets are slippery, slow down!
