Heritage Week
DIEPPE (N.-B.) —The City of Dieppe will be hosting two events as part of New Brunswick Heritage Week from February 8-15.
Under the theme Leadership & Legacy, the municipality will recognize four women who carved out a place for themselves in Dieppe’s history: Lucille Babin, Phyllis Comeau, Lodia Cormier and Mai Dallaire. Their contribution will be acknowledged at the Public Council Meeting scheduled for February 8 at 7 p.m.
Here are a few highlights for each individual being recognized:
Lucille Babin
She dedicated a lot of her time to organizations whose mandate is to help people from disadvantaged backgrounds. She is also involved in the Catholic Women’s League and the Club d’âge d’or de Dieppe.
Phyllis Comeau
She is known for having dedicated herself to the Club d’âge d’or de Dieppe for several years. She is now 96 years old and was a volunteer up until five years ago.
Lodia Cormier
She was very involved in the parish of Sainte-Thérèse and the Club d’âge d’or de Dieppe. She received national recognition from the Catholic Women’s League Canada, and served on a number of committees, including the Canada Games 55+’s organizing committee.
May Dallaire
For a long time now, she has been working at the Dieppe Boys & Girls Club and is very active in the community. She also worked with the Dieppe Scouts and was named Volunteer of the Year for this organization in 2000.
The City of Dieppe also urges its residents to attend a brainstorming session on Wednesday, February 10 in order to review the Doiron Heritage House’s program for the future. This meeting will take place at the Dieppe City Hall from 6:30-8 p.m. RSVP at 877.7905 or jocelyne.richard@dieppe.ca
