Fire Prevention Week
DIEPPE, N.B. — Negligence and carelessness can cause fires at home. The best way to prevent a fire is to adopt safe behaviours.
Come learn more at the Fire Department’s Open House scheduled for Saturday, October 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both fire stations located respectively at 1600 Dieppe Boulevard and 500 Gauvin Road will host the event.
Bouncy castles; face painting; fire station tours; emergency vehicle display; fire prevention information booth;portable fire extinguisher, incendiary detection dog and drone demonstrations, as well as a community BBQ from noon to 1:30 p.m. in support of the Canadian Muscular Dystrophy Association are in store.
This year’s theme is ‘Hear the beep where you sleep. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom’.
“Sleeping with your bedroom door closed is a good idea because this helps to slow the spread of smoke and fire. All smoke alarms should be tested once a month”, says Marc Cormier, Division Chief.
More than half of fire-related deaths occur at home between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. while people are sleeping.
