Replacement of Trees at Place 1604
The City of Dieppe wishes to inform residents that it will be replacing 10 trees surrounding the refrigerated skating oval at Place 1604 in the coming days. After carefully studying the situation and consulting landscaping professionals, the municipality will be replacing the existing trees as this is needed to ensure the safety of skaters and the proper functioning of the installation.
“The existing trees at the skating oval are limes, which lose their leaves well into February. On sunny days, the ice around the leaves melts, creating small cavities on the surface of the rink. These cavities are a danger to skaters, who could trip and injure themselves,” mentioned Luc Bujold, senior manager at the Leisure, Culture and Community Life Department.
The existing limes will be replaced with Japanese lilacs, which lose their leaves earlier in the fall. The City of Dieppe is deeply committed to urban forestry in the development of its territory, aware of its many environmental benefits. That is why, in addition to the 10 new trees to be planted around the skating oval, the City will plant 10 trees at the fire station on Gauvin Road.
