Dieppe KITE International begins tomorrow
DIEPPE, N.B. — The 8th Dieppe KITE International begins tomorrow at Dieppe’s Dover Park.
More than 75 kite flyers from Canada, Germany, England, the United States, France, Haiti, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland will be in Dieppe for the festival taking place from August 15-19.
Activities begin tomorrow afternoon with a free children’s show featuring magician Rémi Boudreau. Opening ceremonies and the first flight will take place at 1 p.m., including the opening of the Dr. Martin Braces Kids’ Zone with giant inflatable games. The Kids’ Zone will be open daily throughout the festival beginning at 1 p.m. at a cost of $10 per day or $25 for the week.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to attend free kite-flying demonstrations, flights, and Rokkaku combats, the international kite flyers’ exhibit tent, as well as the Atlantic Superstore kite-making tent that welcomed more than 3,000 young people last year. The tent provides an area for the young and young-at-heart to create a kite that they may take home with them.
With the assistance of students from Dieppe schools, artist Suzanne Cormier-Dupuis will also present the Wind Garden. The Wind Garden was produced using recycled and reused materials that serve to conduct wind.
New this year: buskers Rani Huszar and Terrence Drake will be on site offering their outstanding show beginning at 5:30 p.m. Kite flyers will take part in the tintamarre organized by the City of Dieppe that will depart from Dover Park toward Place 1604 where National Acadian Day celebrations will be broadcast live on Radio-Canada Television.
