Point us in the right direction!
DIEPPE, N.B. — The City of Dieppe invites residents to provide their opinions on the municipal budget through the new Point us in the right direction initiative.
An online budget simulator has been developed that allows Dieppe residents to offer their ideas and suggestions in an exercise that will lead to a balanced budget. The results may then be taken into consideration by city council when making future decisions.
“As elected municipal officials, we have the privilege of representing you,” said Yvon Lapierre, Mayor of Dieppe. “Our role is not only to represent, but also to decide on issues that affect you on a daily basis. We want to know whether these decisions reflect your concerns – and this tool is an interesting way to find out more about what they are. The answers will allow us to confirm that we are either moving in the right direction or that we have to make some adjustments.”
The main purpose is to raise community awareness about the budget process and the difficult decisions that elected officials have each year. The budget simulator allows residents to provide their opinions regarding a number of major issues and projects such as the property tax rate, street maintenance and arenas.
“This initiative is in response to city council’s commitment to encourage transparency and to engage residents in the decision-making process. This is a golden opportunity for you to tell us what your priorities are,” Mayor Lapierre explained.
Dieppe residents are invited to submit their ideas until Sunday, October 27, online at dieppe.ca or by visiting the Dieppe Market on Saturday, October 5, or Saturday, October 12, to submit their budget on site.
Please note that the Dieppe Public Library offers access to computers for residents who do not have one.
