Dandelion Madness is back!
DIEPPE, NB — The City of Dieppe is proud to announce the return of Dandelion Madness for a third consecutive year following the adoption of its pilot project.
The idea behind this large-scale movement in Canada and around the world is to help pollinating insects, such as butterflies and bees. During the month of May, food is scarce for these insects, and the dandelion is one of the only flowers that can provide them with nectar.
Increasing the number of flowers and the amount of available nectar in the community will help pollinators not only survive but also support their role in contributing to food security and biodiversity.
In solidarity with the movement, the City will be suspending the requirement to limit grass height to under 20 cm and will not be mowing the grass at City Hall and Place 1604 and along Dieppe Boulevard from May 1 to 31, 2023.
Residents are encouraged to do the same by not cutting their lawns or leaving at least some areas unmowed during the period in question. Mowing can resume once the dandelions have faded, as they no longer produce nectar.
Note that this is a voluntary initiative for residents and businesses and that participation is not mandatory.
