Dandelion Madness will be back in May!
DIEPPE, NB — The City of Dieppe is proud to announce that the Dandelion Madness pilot project will be back for the second year in a row.
The idea behind the movement, which has gained momentum in Canada, is to give pollinating insects like butterflies and bees a helping hand. Food is scarce for them in May, and dandelions are one of the few flowers that provide nectar. Increasing the number of flowers and the amount of nectar helps our pollinators.
In solidarity with this movement, the City will suspend the requirement to maintain lawns at less than 20 cm high during the month of May and will not mow the grass at City Hall, at Place 1604, or along Dieppe Boulevard.
Residents are encouraged to either refrain from mowing their lawn or to at least leave some of it uncut. Once the dandelions have flowered, however, the lawn should be cut, as the dandelions no longer produce nectar.
Please note that this is a voluntary initiative, and residents are under no obligation to participate.
