New construction record for the City of Dieppe in 2021
The City issued 639 building permits in 2021, for a total investment of $101.9 million, breaking the previous record of $96.9 million set in 2019.
Over the past year, the municipality authorized 96 permits for commercial, industrial and institutional projects, worth approximately $31.9 million, in addition to granting 543 permits for residential projects, representing $70.1 million in investments.
“Compared to 2020, we are seeing a marked upturn in commercial and industrial projects,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre. “Residential construction also had a good year with the creation of over 568 housing units. Dieppe continues to grow and be a great place to live, work and raise a family,” he added.
“On the residential side, we have seen an increase in both the number of single and two-family dwellings, as well as a doubling of the number of construction permits for new townhouses compared to 2020,” said André Frenette, Director of Planning and Development. “Another interesting fact is that the number of subdivisions approved and lots created in 2021 suggests that this growth will continue in the coming year,” he added.
“The municipality’s growth continues,” said Louis Godbout, Executive Director of Expansion Dieppe. “Currently, there are expansion projects in the Aviation Avenue area, as well as the business park along Dieppe Boulevard. Development plans are ready and construction is underway in those areas, and we will see many of those projects continue through 2022. There are still several projects in the works, a sign that development in Dieppe is not running out of steam.”
