Snow clearing update (February 17)
SNOW CLEARING UPDATE (FEBRUARY 17) – All available staff and equipment are working on our snow clearing operations. Our teams are now clearing snow from residential streets (Priority 3) and widening them. Priority is being given to streets which have garbage collection tomorrow (Wednesday).
As for snow clearing on sidewalks, it will not be done today. There is too much snow for our sidewalk tractors, which means we must use our blowers. These blowers are currently busy clearing snow from residential streets, therefore we are unable to guarantee a time when snow clearing from sidewalks can begin. We ask motorists to be pay very close attention and ask pedestrians to walk facing traffic and wear bright colours in order to be more visible.
There are many large hills and banks of snow near streets. These may become attractive for making snow tunnels or forts, however we ask residents to not do this for safety reasons. Snow banks are so high that equipment operators could injure someone or bury them under snow. It is recommended that such play activities take place in the back yards of homes.
We ask residents to not park along streets during the day or at night in order to facilitate snow clearing operations.
Finally, we are asking residents to adopt a fire hydrant in their neighbourhood and keep it clear of snow. By adopting a fire hydrant, you are helping us to protect you in case of a fire since firefighters lose precious seconds removing snow from fire hydrants before being able to extinguish the fire on your property. Residents are reminded that it is prohibited to put snow from your property in front of fire hydrants or on the street.
We sincerely thank you for your collaboration and patience.
