The participatory budgeting project is back!
DIEPPE (NB) — The City of Dieppe is launching the second edition of its participatory budgeting project (PBP) under the theme "Transform your community!" The PBP is a municipal initiative that allows residents to bring forward a project idea that will serve the community, and is later submitted for vote.
The first phase, which is the gathering of ideas, starts now and will end in October 2017. New things are on the menu for this second edition of PBP — the addition of project categories and a citizens' jury.
"We were very satisfied with the first edition of PBP, which allowed us to undertake great projects, including an indoor climbing wall, a playing surface for ball hockey, an outdoor physical training circuit and a good old-fashioned nature park," said Mayor Yvon Lapierre. "Dieppe residents and organizations are therefore invited to submit their ideas for programs, services, and infrastructure projects in line with one of the following themes: active community, connected community, creative community and green community," he added.
All the ideas will be evaluated by a residents' volunteer jury. The ideas retained will be submitted for a vote by Dieppe residents. The projects chosen by the residents will then be implemented. This second edition of the PBP will receive an amount of $180,000, with a maximum of $45,000 per project.
Residents can submit their ideas using the form available on the City's website. The second phase, project development, will take place between November 2017 and March 2018. The initial ideas from the community will then be transformed into proposals. Then, in June 2018, residents will be asked to vote for the projects they wish to fund.
It is also possible to become a volunteer for one or more phases of the PBP by sending an email to pbp@dieppe.ca or calling 877.7920.
