Participatory Budgeting Project
DIEPPE, N.B. — The City of Dieppe invites the public to take part in a participatory budgeting project, a municipal initiative that allows residents to bring forward ideas aimed at improving the community, and that receives funding from the municipality.
“We want our residents to get involved in the municipality’s decision-making process, to propose ideas that we may not have thought of”, says Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The first step is to gather ideas. Residents can come out and propose their ideas during the following public meetings:
- Tuesday, May 26 - 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Dieppe Public Library)
- Thursday, May 28 - 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Dieppe Boys and Girls Club)
- Saturday, May 30 - 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (Dieppe City Hall)
“Not only will the ideas come from residents, but they will have the final say because the projects will be submitted to popular vote”, adds Mayor Lapierre.
A committee of residents will be in charge of sorting out the ideas, deciding which projects meet all of the criteria and selecting the finalist projects for the vote. Residents will soon be invited to become members of this committee. The projects having received the largest number of votes will be carried out in 2016.
$300,000.00 will be dedicated to this initiative.
