Acadie plays host to the conference Les Arts et la Ville
Over 250 elected officials, cultural workers and artists primarily from Québec and New Brunswick will converge in Dieppe this coming June 2-4 as part of the conference Les Arts et la Ville. The 28th edition of this conference is an initiative of the network Les Arts et la Ville and is organized jointly by the City of Dieppe and the Association acadienne des artistes professionnel.le.s du Nouveau-Brunswick (AAAPNB).
The conference will take place under the theme Culture, the ideal platform for all forms of complicity and will enable the delegates to exchange views on arts and culture, an area that allows our communities to build bridges, bring people together, revive the economy and even shape the future. The notion of complicity holds significant potential for the area’s cultural development. “Participants will have a chance to ponder and discuss innovative initiatives that encourage municipalities to place arts and culture at the heart of their vision and future actions”, says the Mayor of Dieppe, Yvon Lapierre. This 28th edition will mark the first time that the conference takes place outside of Quebec and will allow us to explore the relationships between the Acadian and Quebec societies thanks to the conference program and artistic programming offered to the participants. For complete details on the conference’s program: arts-ville.org.
While this event is reserved for delegates, a social activity will be open to the public. You are therefore invited to attend the Shooting Stars evening taking place Wednesday, June 3 from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Delta Beauséjour Mezzanine. This free show will feature Francis Faubert, followed by Isabelle Ouellet and her group Izzy & the Prohibition. This activity is part of the artistic programming that will be presented during the conference. The programming will give the delegates the opportunity to discover the talents of emerging and established artists in every field.
A new complicity
In hosting this conference, the City of Dieppe begins a first cooperative effort with the AAAPNB. “We are very pleased to collaborate with the City of Dieppe for the first time. Having recently implemented a cultural policy, the City demonstrates the importance it gives to the arts and culture sector by engaging leaders and by finding innovative ways to collaborate”, says Philippe Beaulieu, President, AAAPNB.
This collaboration will continue through 2016 with the Éloizes presentation. Following a tender launched in the New Brunswick municipalities, the AAAPNB selected Dieppe as the host city for the bi-annual event that celebrates artistic excellence in all areas that will be taking place from May 8-16, 2016.
Furthermore, the City of Dieppe, thanks to its new cultural policy, will develop its role as an organization that brings together different community stakeholders in the field of arts and culture. These future collaborations aligh directly with the cultural policy`s four directions, i.e. economic development than includes cultural affairs, cultural programming that includes new talents, community commitment and vitality that ensures culture is featured daily in municipal activities and collective heritage that promotes the area`s heritage and shines a spotlight on our history.
