The ConneXion Zone: This Summer's Hot New Meeting Place
The City of Dieppe is setting up a brand‑new pop-up infrastructure for the summer at Place 1604. The ConneXion Zone will be a pedestrian‑only area, offering entertainment for the entire family, every day of the week, from morning to evening. Located on Gauvin Road, of which a section will be closed for the occasion, it will connect the Dieppe Market and Place 1604, two major downtown hubs, using urban furniture, giant games and entertainment. The ConneXion Zone will be launched on July 1, at the same time as the Canada Day festivities, and will remain in place until September 2.
There will be places to relax, such as chairs, picnic tables and shady spots. As well, there will be games, such as chess, bean bag toss, tic-tac-toe, checkers and many others, all in giant form. Many activities will also be organized here this summer by the municipality and partner organizations, such as the Dieppe Market, the Arts and Culture Centre and the Public Library. The full program will be available in the coming weeks at dieppe.ca.
The purpose of the ConneXion Zone is to offer a meeting place to promote exchanges between members of the community and across generations. Like several large cities that have implemented similar pop‑up projects, the municipality wants to vitalize its downtown and make space again for people. You are also welcome to visit on bicycle.
As this is intended to be a unifying community project, many partners are involved. Students from École Mathieu-Martin and members of the Golden Age Club helped build giant games. Through their donations, organizations such as Home Hardware, New Brunswick Power and La Bikery also helped to make this project possible.
