The Battle of Britain remembered in Dieppe
DIEPPE (NB) — A ceremony to commemorate the Battle of Britain and the efforts of the free air forces during the Second World War will be held on Sunday, September 14, at the J. Laurie Cormier Park (corner of Champlain and Tower Streets) beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The Battle of Britain, which started in the fall of 1940, involved the British Royal Air Force, Royal Canadian Air Force and also airmen from the following countries: Poland, Australia, Barbados, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Ireland, Jamaica, Newfoundland, New Zealand, Rhodesia, South Africa and the United States. 112 Canadian soldiers participated in the Battle of Britain, including 20 that lost their lives.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Club d’âge d’or de Dieppe (445, Acadie Avenue).
