National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
DIEPPE, NB — The City of Dieppe will celebrate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. Non-essential services will be closed for the occasion, but recreational facilities will remain open.
With this gesture, the municipality wishes to highlight the contribution and history of Indigenous peoples.
“September 30 is an opportunity for our staff to honour residential school survivors, their families and their communities,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre. “I encourage staff and all Dieppe residents to learn about the history of Indigenous peoples on this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation,” he added.
The closing of non-essential services applies this year only. In future years, consideration will be given to other ways of highlighting the contribution and history of Indigenous peoples with staff and the public.
