Permanent closure of the velodrome at Rotary St-Anselme Park
The City of Dieppe would like to inform residents that the velodrome at Rotary St-Anselme Park will be permanently closed and that demolition will begin on May 28.
The municipal facility, which was the result of a partnership with Canadian Cycling Association, opened its doors in July 2001. The lifespan of the velodrome was expected to be 15 years, and it provided cycling enthusiasts with 17 seasons. Over the years, the velodrome hosted four Canadian track championships.
However, in 2014, the structure of Canadian Cycling Association’s training centres was changed, forcing the trainer to leave. Following that event, use of the velodrome dropped dramatically.
Experts were recently consulted to evaluate the structure and found it to be unsafe. Therefore, it was decided to completely close and demolish the facility.
The work will not affect access to Rotary Park and should be completed within a few days at the most. The City will then conduct an assessment to propose a new purpose for the site.
