Staged multi-casualty mock disaster exercise
DIEPPE, N.B. – The City of Dieppe Fire Department, in co-operation with the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport, the Codiac Regional RCMP, Ambulance New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization, wishes to advise residents that an airplane crash simulation exercise will take place on Friday, October 27. In case of inclement weather, the exercise will be postponed to Friday, November 3.
The simulation will take place on the south side of Champlain Street, between 1945 and 2099 Champlain, starting at 10:30 a.m. The objective of the simulation, which should last about two hours, is to practise the municipality’s and the airport’s emergency measures plans.
“We carry out this type of exercise every two years. To recreate the cramped space of an airplane’s cabin, we will use a school bus. There will be over 15 participants representing the airplane passengers and crew. This will enable us to test our intervention plans for a situation of this kind,” states Fire Chief Conrad Landry.
The media are invited at 1 p.m. to the City of Dieppe Emergency Measures Centre, located at 500 Gauvin Road, for a short information session after the exercise.
