Dieppe renews its Age-Friendly Community designation
DIEPPE, NB — The City of Dieppe is proud to announce that its status as an Age-Friendly Community has been renewed by the New Brunswick Department of Social Development. The designation, obtained for the first time in 2018, is a testament to the municipality’s continued commitment to the well-being of its 50+ residents.
Over the past few years, the City has surveyed its senior residents to gather information on a variety of topics that affect the daily lives of people 50 and older and develop an action plan.
An age-friendly community advisory committee was also created last year, tasked with promoting an environment that contributes to active aging and the full development of seniors. Dieppe also has a seniors’ committee that acts as an official forum for seniors to express their views and concerns regarding the community’s development.
“Dieppe offers a number of programs and activities for its 50+ residents,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre. “Whether it’s the addition of benches on our trails, the walking track at UNIplex, raised community gardens at Rotary St-Anselme Park or free transit on Wednesdays, we care about our seniors’ well-being.”
According to the Department of Social Development, the Age-Friendly Community movement encourages the establishment of policies, services, and structures that promote healthy aging and wellness. These actions enable seniors to live in safe, healthy environments where they can contribute fully to society. The New Brunswick Age-Friendly Community Recognition Program highlights success and encourages communities and municipalities to take sustainable action towards becoming age-friendly.
