Dieppe Proposes Bold Vision for Public Transit Growth
DIEPPE, NB — The City of Dieppe is developing a bold plan to guide the future of its public transit service.
Given Dieppe’s strong population growth over the past year and a new record for real estate construction, it is important to address the City’s transportation needs now, in order to support current growth and plan for future needs.
This is also in keeping with Dieppe’s commitment to provide initiatives to reduce our collective environmental footprint.
“By optimizing transit service, we aim to provide residents with an affordable and reliable alternative to automobiles for their travel needs, which fits with our ‘one home, one car’ vision,” said urban mobility director Jérémie Aubé.
In addition, the number of cars on our road network could be reduced, which would have an impact on traffic, as well as road maintenance and quality.
Right now, the City offers three routes. The current proposal, which would be implemented in phases, would add three additional routes and improve service by increasing bus frequency to every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes the rest of the time.
As for the on-demand transit pilot, which lasted two years, a statistical analysis indicates that the project was successful. The service is still available, but its place in the network will be studied further.
A public consultation will be held in the near future to better understand the current and future needs of residents and commercial, industrial and institutional stakeholders, and to assess new route and schedule proposals.
