Dieppe Launches Pilot Project for On-Demand Transit
***Please note that the launch date for the pilot project is June 26.***
DIEPPE, NB — The City of Dieppe is excited to offer residents a free on-demand transit service on weekends, powered by Blaise Transit. As of June 26, Dieppe’s transit system will switch entirely to on-demand service on weekends, replacing routes 93, 94 and 95.
Bus users will be able to book their ride through the free Blaise Transit mobile app available on Apple Store and Google Play. They will be able to use the app to request transit at any time, and requests can also be made by telephone. Riders will then be matched with others who have similar trips, and a bus will be dispatched to serve them.
“We are proud to innovate by partnering with Blaise Transit and Codiac Transpo to offer an on-demand transit service. This technological shift will allow us to improve the experience of bus users,” said Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The new service will reduce travel times in the Dieppe area more than ever. Blaise Transit technology automatically takes the most optimal route possible to get residents where they need to go.
“We are pleased to be associated with a forward-thinking city like Dieppe, which makes the well-being of the public and the environment a top priority. Together, we will ensure that transit is more attractive and user-friendly for riders, while also being an economical and responsible choice as the region recovers,” said Justin Hunt, Blaise Transit CEO and co-founder.
“As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, innovative solutions are important steps to ensuring that more people are encouraged to use transit. Codiac Transpo is pleased to be providing assistance and be a partner for the City of Dieppe as they launch this new service” said Angela Allain, Director of Public Transit for the City of Moncton.
