Dieppe Shatters Yet Another Construction Record
DIEPPE, NB — The City of Dieppe continues on its robust growth trajectory by setting a new record for construction in 2023. Over 500 permits have been issued since the beginning of the year, representing a total investment of almost $150 million and surpassing the most recent record of $119.4 million set in 2022.
As of October 31, the municipality had authorized 120 permits for commercial, industrial and institutional projects worth approximately $50.6 million, in addition to 387 permits for residential projects worth $99.3 million.
“The amount of residential, commercial and industrial construction in Dieppe clearly demonstrates the economic vitality and dynamic nature of our municipality,” says Mayor Yvon Lapierre. “By investing responsibly in our infrastructure, we’re creating the right environment for the growth that makes Dieppe such a great place to live, work and raise a family. We’re once again in an excellent position to address the region’s housing shortage and become Atlantic Canada’s destination of choice for francophone immigration.”
“Our recent housing needs assessment shows that between 3,500 and 4,400 new units will be required in Dieppe by 2033,” says Alexandre Girard, Director of Planning and Development. “To support the municipality’s growth, which is the result of well-planned development, we will continue to focus on taking measures that address our housing needs and issues effectively.”
“The distribution of the types of permits—residential, commercial and industrial—reflects a balanced economy conducive to private investment,” adds Louis Godbout, Executive Director of Expansion Dieppe. “The quality of municipal infrastructure is undoubtedly an important factor when choosing a location. With its ideal position in the Atlantic Trade Corridor, Dieppe is an obvious choice.”
As 2023 is not yet over, it is anticipated that this record will be higher when the months of November and December are taken into account.
