10th Dieppe KITE International festival features family events
DIEPPE, N.B. — Dover Park will be buzzing with activity including concerts, a kids’ zone with inflatable games, a kite-creation tent, kite demonstrations, Rokkaku combats, acrobatic kites and more than 100 international kite fliers during the 10th Dieppe KITE International festival from August 13-17.
The kite-creation tent is where youth will be invited to personalize their kites. “More than 3,000 young people came to the kite-creation tent last year, and we expect even more this year,” said festival chairman Louis LeBlanc. “This year, we’ll once again benefit from the help of international kite fliers who will help the kids decorate and fly their kites.”
Several children’s performances will be staged, such as Monsieur Crapaud, Féeli Tout, Maritime Reptiles, Mad Science, Old School, Rémi Boudreau and Art Richard. Admission is $2 for children and $3 for adults.
In the past few years, the festival has also featured a number of up-and-coming artists. This year, Félix and Alex Belliveau, Amélie and Camille Richard, Sasha Leger, Zackery Lane and Jessica Roy, as well as Jean Luc Saulnier and Pat Gillespie will share the stage.
“I invite everyone to attend the running of the bols races – a battle against the wind presented daily at 2:15 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., except on Wednesday, as well as the candy shower presented every day at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.,” Mr. LeBlanc added.
Two free events not to be missed are the night flight on Thursday, August 14, which includes a tribute to Jean Pierre Ferland and Cat Stevens, where about 40 kite fliers will fly their kites to the sound of music and the movement of light in an amazing show; as well as fireworks taking place on Friday, August 15, at about 9:15 p.m.
