Commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid
The City of Dieppe, in collaboration with the Dieppe Military Veterans Association, is organizing a ceremony on Sunday, August 22 at Place 1604 to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid in France.
The annual ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a military parade to pay tribute to the Canadian soldiers who died in combat during this military operation. The ceremony will be followed by a reception to be held at the Dieppe Arts and Culture Centre (331 Acadie Avenue).
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Arts and Culture Centre, at the same hours.
Carried out on August 19, 1942, in the port of Dieppe, France, the Dieppe Raid was one of the most devastating and bloody chapters in Canadian military history. Of the 4,963 Canadian servicemen who left England to take part in the operation, only 2,210 returned and a large number of them wounded.
