Celebrate Heritage Week at the Doiron House in Dieppe
DIEPPE, N.B. — The City of Dieppe invites the general public to celebrate Heritage Week with a free exhibition in the barn of the Doiron House. From February 11 to 16, come and discover the growth of the municipality through photos and newspaper articles.
To celebrate the occasion, special programming will also take place at the Doiron House. Take part in a writing workshop on the theme of sharing memories, make traditional soaps and watch a demonstration of traditional linen weaving.
For the complete program, visit dieppe.ca/heritageweek
Please note that there is a charge for the soap-making activity (to cover the cost of ingredients), and pre-registration is required (spots are limited).
Doiron House
Located at 1150 Amirault, the Doiron House was built in 1841 by Joseph Doiron, a writer, justice of the peace and prosperous Acadian farmer. It was a luxurious Acadian house in its time. The preservation of the original masonry hearth—the only known Acadian house that still has one—is part of the house’s unique character.
The house was passed down to Joseph Doiron’s descendants from generation to generation until the City of Dieppe acquired it in 2016 to preserve the story of this important piece of the region’s history.
