2021 Municipal Budget Adopted
DIEPPE, N.B. – Dieppe City Council adopted its 2021 operating budgets totalling $73.3 million during its regular public meeting on November 9. Of this amount, $59.7 million will go toward the general operating budget, while $13.6 million will go toward the water and sewer budget.
Capital spending budgets were also passed at the meeting: $12.3 million for the general capital budget and $3.2 million for the water and sewer capital budget.
“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve been able to maintain property taxes at the same rate thanks to various savings generated following the temporary closure of our recreational facilities this past March,” stated Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The annual water and sewer bill will remain unchanged, at $948, for the first time since 2008. Through responsible financial management, the city has been able to keep this rate stable even though the budget had to absorb an additional $675,000 (year 1 of 4) due to the $2.7 million deficit incurred in 2019.
It is to be noted that the tax base grew by 0.75% in 2021 to its current total of $3.3 billion.
