Adoption of 2020 municipal budget
DIEPPE, N.B. – Dieppe City Council adopted its 2020 operating budgets totalling $71.95 million during its regular public meeting held on December 9. Of this amount, $58.9 million will go toward the general operating budget while $13.05 million will go toward the water and sewer budget.
Capital spending budgets were also passed at the meeting: $17.2 million for the general capital budget and $2.5 million for the water and sewer capital budget.
"For a third consecutive year, the tax rate of $1.6295 for every $100 of assessment remains the same, which represents approximately $3,015 for a $185,000 house, or $8.26 per day. In exchange, the resident shall receive drinking water that exceeds Canadian standards, high quality municipal facilities, road maintenance and public protection services, eco-friendly development of our territory, activities for the entire family, and all the other less visible aspects that keep our municipality running smoothly," said Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The water and sewer bill will increase by $8, an annual increase from $940 to $948. Being that we manage our finances responsibly, we only have to increase this rate by $8, even though a New Brunswick Court of Appeal judgment requires us to repay $3.2 million to Noron Inc. as part of a litigation related to distributing drinking water to Dover Estates.
It should be noted that the property tax base increased by 3.6% in 2019, and is now $3.27 billion.
