Adoption of 2019 municipal budget
DIEPPE, N.B. – Dieppe City Council adopted its 2019 operating budgets totalling $69.4 million during its regular public meeting held on December 10. Of this amount, $56.5 million will go toward the general operating budget while $12.9 million will go toward the water and sewer budget.
Capital spending budgets were also passed at the meeting: $11.7 million for the general capital budget and $1.2 million for the water and sewer capital budget.
"There is good news: The increase in our property tax base was larger than what we predicted, and that, combined with responsible management of our finances, means no increase in our property tax rate for 2019," explained Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The tax rate will stay the same: $1.6295 per $100 of assessment. Water and sewer bills will increase by $12, from $928 to $940.
"Our big project for 2019 is without question the construction of the intergenerational community complex, which should begin soon. Several road construction projects are also planned, including the refurbishment of several local streets and the extension of du Collège and Alain-Gillette streets. We will also be setting up a permanent snow dump," concluded Mayor Lapierre.
