Adoption of 2015 municipal budget
Dieppe city council adopted its 2015 operating budgets totalling $60.1 million during a special public meeting held on December 16. Of this amount, $48.1 million will go toward the general operating budget while $12 million will go toward the budget for water and sewer.
Capital spending budgets were also passed at the meeting: $11.5 million for the general capital budget (borrowing $5.2 million) and $3.2 million for the water and sewer capital budget (borrowing $1.7 million).
“This budget well represents our mission to offer quality services to our residents while at the same time ensuring that we make responsible decisions for the good of everyone,” explained Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
The property tax rate remains the same at $1,5845 per $100 of assessment. Water and sewer bills will increase by $24, or $6 per quarterly bill.
“The priorities reflect what we have heard from residents. This is why the majority of our capital spending budget will be put toward road construction,” Mayor Lapierre said. “Among the road construction projects anticipated for 2015, we will see several repaving and sidewalk projects, the replacement of a few culverts, and especially the reconstruction of Amirault Street / Acadie Avenue (marsh section), a designated provincial highway. This project is conditional based on financial contributions from the two other levels of government. We hope to be the bearers of good news on this front very soon.”
