Holiday season activities
DIEPPE, N.B. — Here are a number of suggestions for indoor and outdoor activities taking place in Dieppe during the holiday season.
New this year is Christmas Sing-along taking place on Friday, December 12 (in case of inclement weather, postponed to Saturday, December 13) at Place 1604 located behind Dieppe City Hall between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Songs will be performed by the Neil Michaud Choir, Codiac Concert Band, Ginette & Sam and École le Sommet.
“The month of December is the time we celebrate the joyous holiday season,” says Gabrielle Maillet, community officer for seniors and families for the City of Dieppe. “This year, we’re offering a new event which includes an evening of traditional Christmas songs, the lighting of a giant Christmas tree, bonfires and many surprises. Come out to enjoy and admire the twinkling decorations at Place 1604 and the wonderful spirit in the air during the event.”
Christmas Story Time will take place on Saturday, December 13, at Dieppe City Hall as well as at the Dieppe Public Library from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children will be invited to share their wish list with Santa Claus. As well, the Dieppe Public Library will offer a Christmas story (10 a.m. in English and 1 p.m. in French), including a number of free Christmas-themed activities. There will also be a place where non-perishable food items may be deposited for donation to the area’s food banks.
Make sure to book Thursday, December 18, in your calendar to come out and celebrate the Holiday Season starting at 7 p.m. Our municipal council and our two MLAs, the Hon. Brian Gallant and Hon. Roger Melanson, will be welcoming you in the City Hall lobby!
A youth choir from Dieppe will be performing and a light snack will be served!
“Why not consider a Christmas card for the sport lovers in the family which includes a pass for five adult visits to the Dieppe Aquatic and Sports Centre,” says Luc Bujold, manager of the aquatic centre. “Cards are $25 each. There is also a card available for six visits for children ages 12 and under at a cost of $15 per card.”
Please visit dieppe.ca for the Centre’s special holiday hours.
The Arthur-J.-LeBlanc Centre and Centenaire Arena will be open during the holiday season for pick-up hockey, ringette and family skating. Refer to dieppe.ca for the schedule.
Rotary St-Anselme Park will also be open for walking, sliding and skating (weather permitting) and Dover Park will be open for walking. Please consult the website for details or call 384.DIEP (3437) for the latest updates.
City Hall will close at noon on December 24 and remain closed on December 25 and 26. Regular hours are in effect on December 29 and 30. On December 31, City Hall will close at noon. Regular hours return on January 2.
Happy holidays!
