The Dieppe of tomorrow
Dieppe is currently undergoing major changes. These were planned when the Municipal Development Plan was adopted in 2017. However, they are taking place more quickly than anticipated. The rapid increase in our population is behind this acceleration. Despite this faster-than-expected growth, however, the municipality continues to follow the Municipal Development Plan. The new tree bylaw will be applied to every new construction projects.
Housing strategy
To manage our rapid growth and bring solutions to the table, a housing needs assessment was presented to City Council in October 2023.
According to the study, between 3,505 and 4,365 housing units will need to be built in Dieppe by 2033 to meet demand. Some 1,100 new homes are in the works for 2024.
The assessment will form the basis of a municipal affordable housing strategy that will be presented to Council in 2024. The new strategy will contain steps that the City can take to respond effectively and within its capabilities to its housing needs and issues.
Coming soon
Expect to see more changes to our surroundings with upcoming construction projects. By prioritizing densification over urban sprawl, however, fewer trees will be cut down and fewer ecosystems will be disturbed.
We understand that it can be alarming to see wooded areas disappear, especially when it happens quickly. Without the Municipal Development Plan, though, even more of them would be lost.
We know it’s hard to see our surroundings change. It’s also difficult to find a place to rent or buy. Rest assured that the City is working hard with various stakeholders to ensure that all current and future members of our community have a safe, quality home, while preserving and enhancing the quality of life of the entire community.
