Chopped Canada winner Matt Pennell at Dieppe Harvest Festival
DIEPPE, N.B. — The 6th Dieppe Harvest Festival features a delectable program of events from September 12 to 14. There are a number of new activities this year not to be missed by foodies.
The festival begins with the Culinart Experience on Friday, September 12, at 7 p.m. with a tasting of bite-size delicacies made from local products by Collective Kitchen and executive chefs Pierre Richard of Little Louis’ Oyster Bar and Michel Savoie of Tide and Boar. These delicacies will be accompanied by Atlantic Canadian wines, beers and spirits chosen and prepared by Luc Doucet, Wine Director at Duo Wine Bar, Patrice Godin of Acadie Broue, and Jacques Allain and Mathieu Lanteigne of Tide and Boar. There will also be an edible work of art for tasting, live art and a DJ. Tickets go on sale next Tuesday (August 12) at a cost of $30 each at the Dieppe Arts and Culture Centre or by calling 854-2787. (Space is limited.)
The Battle of the Grills promises to heat things up at the Dieppe Market on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. when six renowned area chefs each receive a mystery box containing local products. They will then have 35 minutes to prepare a dish using all the products in the box. The public will have an opportunity to watch up close and cheer on Chopped Canada winner Matt Pennell (Executive Chef at the Red Ball Internet Centre and Legends Restaurant), Benjamin Cormier (Little Louis’ Oyster Bar), Michel Savoie (Tide and Boar), Alex Haun (Kingsbrae Garden) and Trevor Rowe (Alma City Club), as well as one surprise chef.
This year’s festival has added a youth component on Saturday. A story hour featuring Diego l’escargot led by Marie-France Comeau will be held at 1 p.m. at the Dieppe Public Library.
The celebration of local products continues on Sunday with a gourmet BBQ from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dieppe Market. Chef Pierre Richard of Little Louis’ will prepare three gourmet hamburgers using local products. Corn and a beverage are included. Kevin McIntyre will offer music entertainment. Tickets are available on the site at a cost of $10 for adults and $6 for children.
