The participatory budget will enable six community projects to take shape
It was with great pleasure that volunteers, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Ernest Thibodeau, announced the winners of the second edition of the Participatory Budgeting Project (PBP).
The PBP is a municipal initiative which allowed residents to choose how to spend a portion of the municipal operating budget. Launched in June 2017 under the theme “Transform your community!” 200 project ideas were received in the categories of active, connected, creative and green community.
Then, 24 of these ideas were transformed into concrete project proposals and presented to a citizen’s jury. The citizen’s jury selected 16 of those project ideas to appear on the ballot. More than 2,000 residents voted in May and June for their favourite projects.
Winners of the 2018 edition
1. Active community
Financial contribution to help build and install a playground infrastructure at École le Marais for third to fifth graders.
2. Connected community
An open space to allow dogs to run off leash, encouraging networking and gathering of people.
3. Connected community
Weekly tricycle rides offered at no cost to seniors, allowing for leisure outings or trips to run errands in order to prevent social isolation.
4. Creative community
Installation of book boxes throughout the community, allowing people to have access to books in public spaces. This initiative will foster an interest of reading amongst youth. In addition, the book collection will also feature characters from different cultures, thereby raising community awareness on the importance and benefits of cultural diversity.
5. Green community
A fruit tree park at Rotary St-Anselme Park where, during summer or fall, people will be able to pick fruit such as plums and pears for free.
6. Green community
A mobile station allowing to make drinking water available at various locations where there is none and during various community gatherings, thus reducing the need for plastic bottles.
The implementation of the winning projects will take place in the coming months. You would like to participate? Contact Luc Richard today at 877.7920.
