Dieppe marks Disability Awareness Week
DIEPPE, N.B. – As part of Disability Awareness Week, the City of Dieppe is organizing a week of activities in collaboration with the Dieppe Public Library.
Various stations will be set up at City Hall and the Library in order to provide a sense of what people living with a disability must face each day. As well, local youth will be invited to take part in a colouring contest as well as an obstacle race while using a wheelchair.
The City of Dieppe strongly believes in the importance of accessibility and inclusion for all its residents. A few examples of this are: the City has a very active Advisory Committee on Accessibility that makes several recommendations each year; each municipal building is accessible to individuals with reduced mobility; tactile ground surface indicators have been installed to allow those with visual impairments to recognize that they are at an intersection; and the number of parking spaces reserved for individuals with reduced mobility has been increased in municipal parking lots.
The activities are free to attend and several prizes are available to be won.
