Dieppe welcomes 5th Annual Wool Sock Walk for P.R.O. Kids Dieppe
DIEPPE, N.B. — On Friday, October 4, board members, partners and friends of P.R.O. Kids will don those familiar grey, white and red wool socks for the fifth time to walk through the streets of Memramcook and Dieppe to raise $30,000 to assist youth in need.
The event is the largest fundraising campaign for the organization which supported more than 260 sport, cultural and recreational activities last year for youth experiencing a difficult family situation.
“Families sometimes experience financial difficulties that prohibit them from paying for their child’s activities,” said Josée Nadeau, chair of P.R.O. Kids’ board of directors. “Our committee strongly believes that children must have the opportunity to take part in activities that will allow them to thrive. We need approximately $45,000 per year to pay for registration fees and equipment. That’s why we look to the generosity of businesses and the community.”
The Dieppe Co-op has been collaborating with the event for several years by matching the funds raised up to a maximum of $15,000. They will be lending their valued support again this year.
To achieve the fundraising goal, members of the public are invited to take part in the march or to raise funds at their workplace by using the official form. They may also choose to make a donation or to do a few hours of volunteer work. Please contact Marise Cormier at 877.5022 or prokids@dieppe.ca.
“We invite people to raise money through special days at work or to pass around the hat and ask for donations,” Mrs. Nadeau added. “By donating just a few dollars, we can bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of children”
The Wool Sock Walk will be broadcast live on BoFM Radio beginning at 9 a.m. thanks to the participation of radio hosts.
P.R.O. Kids’ mission is to provide assistance to youth from Dieppe and Memramcook who, due to a lack of financial resources, do not have an opportunity to participate in sport, cultural and recreational activities.
