Veterans ceremony to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Dieppe's Raid
DIEPPE, NB – The City of Dieppe, in collaboration with the Dieppe Military Veterans Association, will be holding a ceremony on Sunday, August 20 at Place 1604, located behind City Hall, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid, in France.
The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a military parade paying tribute to our country’s fallen soldiers.
The Dieppe Raid, executed August 19, 1942 on the French port of Dieppe, was one of the most devastating and bloody chapters in Canadian military history. Of the 4,963 Canadians who embarked from England for the operation, only 2,210 returned, and many of them were wounded. Casualties totalled 3,367, including 916 dead and 1,946 prisoners of war.
In case of rain, the event will take place at the Dieppe Golden Age Club (445 Acadie Avenue).
