Commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid
In collaboration with the Dieppe Military Veterans Association, the City of Dieppe is organizing a ceremony on Sunday, August 19, at Place 1604, located behind City Hall, to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid in France.
The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a military parade to pay tribute to the Canadian soldiers who died in combat.
“In addition to commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid with our ceremony, we invite the public to listen to an important announcement about something new that will allow for a symbolic honouring of this event,” said Nils Liljemark of the Military Veterans Association.
The Dieppe Raid, carried out on August 19, 1942, in the port of Dieppe, France, was one of the most devastating and bloody chapters in Canadian military history. Of the 4,963 Canadian servicemen who left England to take part in the operation, only 2,210 returned, with a large number of them wounded.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Dieppe Golden Age Club, located at 445 Acadie Avenue.
