25th anniversary of twinning with Carencro
DIEPPE, N.B. — The August 13th Wednesday Show featuring Sheryl Cormier and Dominique Dupuis will be dedicated to commemorating the 25th anniversary of the twinning between the City of Dieppe and the City of Carencro, Louisiana.
Twenty-five years ago, Dieppe mayor Bill Malenfant and Carencro mayor Tommy Angele agreed to twin the two municipalities without knowing what would eventually come of it. Many years later, the project has proven to be a positive and enriching one. In fact, Carencro also began its own Wednesday Show series of concerts more than 10 years ago.
Through the years, the two cities organized cultural exchanges focusing on the importance of heritage in both municipalities. A number of students from Carencro had the opportunity of participating in the Jeux de l’Acadie and other school activities. As well, the City of Dieppe has had the pleasure of welcoming residents of Carencro to the Dieppe KITE International festival. In 2002, the festival’s theme was Mardi Gras, which was inspired by Carencro.
“The twinning with Louisiana has absolutely brought as a number of opportunities and I’m convinced that we will accomplish even more during the next 25 years,” said Yvon Lapierre, Mayor of Dieppe.
