Types of Road Construction
The City of Dieppe has a vast network of roads spanning over 189 kilometres. One of the many services offered by the municipality is road construction, which generally takes place between May and October each year.
Continuously maintaining and improving our roads is essential to the safety and well-being of residents. Various road construction projects take place throughout the city every year to ensure the well-being of all network users.
Here’s a summary of the different types of road work carried out by the City.
Major rehabilitation |
Major work involving road resurfacing, culvert replacement (where necessary), and other construction work. It may also include replacing infrastructure such as underground water pipes, sewer lines and concrete curbs. |
Water main renewal |
Replacement of the underground pipes that carry and supply water to homes and businesses. |
Microsurfacing |
Microsurfacing, also known as surface treatment, is a road preservation technique involving the application of a thin layer of asphalt overtop the existing asphalt. No asphalt is removed. The technique increases the life expectancy of the road while improving the surface quality. |
Milling and paving |
This work involves replacing the top layer of asphalt with a new one. It helps maximize the life expectancy of lower asphalt layers without having to redo the entire road. |
Asphalt preservation program |
This program aims to keep existing roads in good condition. It involves working on a road before the surface quality deteriorates from fair to poor and requires complete reconstruction. This extends the life of the road and reduces the need for long-term investment. |
