Official opening of the refrigerated skating oval

DIEPPE, (NB) — The population is invited to the official opening of the refrigerated skating oval that will be held on Friday, January 6, during the launch of the Fun on ice concert series.

Over 140 meters long, five meters wide (seven meters at both ends), the new refrigerated oval will be used to practice skating from December to March.

Pool closures at the Aquatic and Sports Centre for maintenance work

Important information – Start of the winter session at the Aquatic Centre delayed

Please note that the winter session scheduled to start Monday, January 23 is postponed to Monday, January 30.

Due to unforeseen events, the ongoing maintenance work will continue for a few additional days.

It is to be noted that lap swims will start as scheduled on Monday, January 23 at 4:30 p.m. The lap swims’ schedule is available at dieppe.ca

Christmas tree pickup

DIEPPE, (NB) — The City of Dieppe wishes to advise residents that the Christmas tree pickup for households with regular weekly garbage collection on:

• TUESDAY, will be held on Tuesday, January 10
• WEDNESDAY, will be held on Wednesday, January 11
• FRIDAY, will be held on Friday, January 13

Christmas trees may be placed at curbside a few days before the scheduled pickup, but cannot be frozen in the snowbank.

Passing of former mayor William “Bill” Malenfant

DIEPPE, NB — It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of William “Bill” Malenfant, former councillor and mayor of Dieppe, and former provincial MLA.

Mr. Malenfant had a long career in the municipal sector. He first served as town councillor from 1969 to 1971, before being elected mayor for the first time in 1971.

He was re-elected for seven more terms as mayor in 1973-1974, 1974-1977, 1983-1986, 1986-1989, 1989-1992, 1992-1995 and finally 1995-1998.

Outdoor concerts at Place 1604

DIEPPE, (NB) — This year, the City of Dieppe will add four free outdoor concerts at Place 1604 as part of its Fun on Ice activities that started in 2014.

These concerts will take place every Friday from January 6 to March 31, from 6:30-8 p.m.

“Attendance was so good last year that we decided to add shows, says Denis LeBlanc, Community Officer, City of Dieppe. The public will be able to skate out on the new refrigerated ice surface to the sound of their favorite music artists!”
